Cycling through history
The ancient imperial road „Claudia Augusta“ was built during the 1st century, and it connected the ports of the Adriatic sea with the northern regions up to the plains of the Danube. It was completed in a. D. 46-47. It was one of the main north-south routes: for many centuries it allowed the transit of merchants and armies, and it opened the doors to cultural exchange between distant cultures.
80 of the total 516 km of the original Claudia Augusta route can be followed by bicycle, along the Valsugana Bike Route (Ciclopista della Valsugana) that winds along the valley from Caldonazzo to Tezze di Grigno (in the Trentino region) and continues beyond the region's borders until Bassano del Grappa (in the Veneto region).
The bike route can be enjoyed by both beginner and expert cyclists. It is surrounded by woods and apple orchards, and it passes through many small and characteristic villages and towns along its way.
The Agriturismo Corte delle Mele is a great starting point for anyone who would like to experience this wonderful journey through nature, history and art.
